Questions drivers ask about our flatbed jobs — call our recruiting specialists with any others!
Frequently Asked Questions
Below we’ve answered the questions drivers often ask about Lone Star and our flatbed jobs. We recommend you talk with one of our Recruiting Specialists if you have others.
Q: What type of tractors does Lone Star run?
Our Kenworths
Every division of Lone Star runs late-model Kenworth T680s, most of which are automatics, equipped with APUs, inverters, refrigerators, ORB Comm ELDs and Cameras. Our Heavy Haul Fleet consists of a combination of T800s and T880s.
Q: Does Lone Star limit the speed of its trucks?
Governed at 68 MPH
Yes, our trucks are governed at 68 MPH as long as a driver meets individual fuel consumption targets. Each is programmed to automatically revert to 65 MPH if it falls below Lone Star’s miles-per-gallon threshold. The truck remains governed at the lower speed until the average MPG again meets the target.
Q: Does Lone Star run any van trailers?
LST Logistics’ Dry Van Fleet
Lone Star Transportation is primarily an open-deck carrier, running everything from standard flatbeds and step deck trailers to large, super heavy haul equipment.
However, our LST Logistics division runs dry van routes in all 48 states and regionally in the Midwest and Texas, hauling general commodities, building materials and construction equipment. Ask our Recruiting Specialists for more details.
Q: How long are Lone Star's drivers out?
More Home Time Options
As an OTR carrier, Lone Star Transportation runs 49 states and Canada. So, our long-haul drivers may be out three weeks at a time. They typically earn one day home for every seven days out, but we work to get them home when needed.
We also offer other truck driving positions with a broad range of home time options: OTR jobs home every week or two, regional CDL-A jobs home most weekends and, occasionally, local shuttle driver jobs home daily. We can work with you, particularly in our regional fleets.
Do you prefer hauling legal-sized loads and getting home most weekends — or regularly driving OTR heavy haul but occasionally running legal-sized loads for a few weeks? Do you need to meet a National Guard commitment? Are you an elite OTR truck driver considering semi-retirement? Call our Recruiting Specialists to find the Lone Star job that suits you.
Q: Does Lone Star have a pet policy?
No Pets
Due to customer restrictions at most of our delivery locations, we have a “no pet” policy at Lone Star.
Q: Are Lone Star trucks manual or automatic?
3-Axle Automatics
Currently, our 3-axle trucks will be Kenworth automatics.
Our 4-axle heavy haul trucks have 18-speed manual transmissions with 2-speed auxiliaries.
Q: Does Lone Star have a rider program?
No-Cost Rider Program
Yes, we allow one passenger to ride at no cost. Passengers must be 18. However, during the summer months, children 12 and over may ride.
Q: How much do Lone Star drivers make?
The Truck Driving Job That Pays More
Lone Star company drivers earn $65,000 to $100,000+ per year.

Q: How often do Lone Star drivers get paid?
Weekly Pay
Our pay period runs from Saturday to Friday. We pay our drivers for every mile run during the pay period on the following Friday.
Q: Does Lone Star train for load securement?

Q: Does Lone Star offer paid orientation?
Paid (and all-expense-paid) Orientation
Yes, $1,500 — but first, you must complete the five-day program. You’ll receive your orientation pay in the next week’s check. (If you require additional flatbed/ securement training after orientation, we also pay you $150/ day after you finish.)
We cover all expenses for your travel and stay, too! Your significant other is welcome to join you.
